Why Is Leadership Necessary In The Medical Field?

Jeffrey Oppenheimer

Leadership is an important component in almost every field and doctors need to realize this and work on their leadership skills. As a matter of fact, they have to focus on all the important components as this will up their management skills as well. During internships and temporary work experience, many medical professionals come to understand that there is a major difference between managerial leadership and strategic leadership.

The suitable leadership style:

While visionary leadership is most suitable in situations when an organization needs a new direction to follow, strategic and managerial leadership aspects are more visible in the day-to-day running of the business. The same goes for a medical professional. Managerial leadership involves coordinating and managing daily activities controlling outcomes and maintaining stability, strategic leadership is more about understanding the forces in the external environment and developing and shaping strategic responses accordingly. It is essential for medical professionals to be strategic as only then they will be able to manage multiple things at the same time.

Maintenance of all the issues:

Managerial leadership ensures the maintenance of organizational systems and the achievement of the bottom line, strategic leadership takes a broader approach by helping to maintain organizational sustainability and utilize available resources for capacity building, value creation and the fulfillment of medical vision and goals. In a broader view, both managerial and strategic vision are essential for short-term viability for doctors as well as the long-term survival and success in any field. They are not exclusive of each other but rather the same person must be able to switch between these two roles to become a more effective medical leader. However, managers must seek to modify and improve their styles to become strategic leaders. Gone are the days when doctors were considered normal human beings and everything they did was considered acceptable.

Today, doctors have to get their hands on exceptional things and make them a part of their routine. They need to be great leaders and they must be managing multiple things quickly and swiftly while benefitting their patients. This will earn them a great reputation and they will excel in their field.

3 Things Every Doctor Must Avoid!

Jeffrey Oppenheimer

We live in a society where many norms are for almost everything we do and feel and this is the place where we have to follow these rules to become a socially responsible citizen. Whether you are a doctor and any other professional, you might come across articles that state the things that you must be doing but you might have not seen articles informing you about the things that must be avoided at any cost.

Do not distribute your attention:

Doctors have got very busy recently and their attention is usually divided. Many seniors doctors believe that every doctor must be attentive and focused and give enough time to every patient. Patients are not physically unwell but they have so many things going on in their minds. You have to relax them by allowing them to talk to you about their health and comprehensively share their problem. If your attention will be divided, they will not feel comfortable talking to you about their issue. Therefore, make sure that you are paying enough attention to your patient.

Give them enough time:

Doctors have so many things to handle and they have to manage multiple things at the same time but they are not supposed to manage all the things in front of their patients. They must wait for the right time to manage other things as they are supposed to give enough time to their patients. This will also allow them to talk to you more about their issues and that too in detail.

Focus on what your patient has to say:

There are many cases where people have complained that their doctor did not consider the magnanimity of the issue and hushed off everything they told him by saying that this is not a big issue. Patients are normally sensitive and they are not ready or prepared for insensitive comments. Therefore, it is essential to have a sensitive approach towards them by not making their issue a trivial issue. You have to be strong enough and know that these issues are going to affect them psychologically and your patient cannot afford any psychological toll in this situation.
